The Superman We Wanted.

#957 is a great screw with the mind kinda comic to start everything off. The story begins with a hostage situation with the S.C.U having everything under control. When we get inside the building, it’s as though the guys don’t know why they’re there other than to wait for things to happen. When the lights go out we see them being attacked by what is presumably Superman.

When the theoretical smoke clears, we see Lex Luthor in a Superman suit. He then give a speech proclaiming himself the new Superman and that the Superman everyone knows is dead. This is when we get to see Superman (pre flashpoint) moving into a house with his son (John) and wife. His son had set up the TV so he can play video games, when all of the action is taking place on the TV.

One thing leads to another and Lex and Superman are fighting again. We have a lot of things happening in this issue that have made me excited for a Superman comic…not like I’m over the fucking moon about it, but still it’s been  while. Dan Jurgens does a great job of setting the reader up for a jumping on point. I would suggest however that you read at least Superman Rebirth #1 to get a understanding of what’s happening.

The one thing I will say is that with the new Rebirth I will probably get lost as to what character is from what story, and when. The art and colors in this issue are on point! They really help tell the story and keep your attention. I’m starting to really like the rebirth covers.

If you’re looking for good place to start with Superman or Action Comics, this is your issue.

What are your thoughts? Will you be following this series?
